Modern Dairy Organic Feed Management Practices
Planting Methods in Water-Scarce Regions
- Shengmu Grasslands provides the company with 300,000 tons of silage planted in the Bayannur region of Inner Mongolia, accounting for 10% of the company’s total demand.
- Beidahuang Group provides the company with 180,000 mu of organic soybeans. All organic soybeans are grown on dry land, relying on natural precipitation for irrigation. This cultivation method helps maintain soil structure and fertility, improve soil health, while enhancing the agricultural system’s adaptability to climate change and reducing negative environmental impacts.
Water Management Cooperation Practices
Shengmu Grasslands has successfully integrated modern technology into its agricultural production. Currently, Shengmu Grasslands collaborates with Israel’s Netafim, using low-flow drip technology and smart agriculture systems on 25,000 mu of organic land, improving water resource utilization efficiency.
Water-saving principles:
- Utilize IoT technology to install sensors monitoring key parameters such as soil temperature, moisture, pH, and EC values, collecting real-time field data to provide scientific basis for irrigation decisions.
- Apply intelligent drip irrigation control systems to achieve automated irrigation management. Automatically adjust irrigation plans based on crop water requirements and soil conditions, reducing manual intervention and improving irrigation accuracy and efficiency.
- Through intelligent decision support systems, combine crop growth models and environmental data to develop precise irrigation plans. This ensures the right amount of water and nutrients are provided at the right time and place, avoiding resource waste and improving water resource utilization.
- Utilize mobile internet and smart devices to achieve remote monitoring and management of drip irrigation systems. Management personnel can remotely view field conditions via mobile phones or computers, adjust irrigation plans in a timely manner, and perform system maintenance and management.
Water Usage Data
Shengmu Grasslands’ 100,000 mu of land exclusively supplies about 300,000 tons of silage to Modern Dairy, with approximately 10 irrigations per year. By using low-flow drip irrigation pipes and smart agriculture systems, 16 tons of water can be saved per ton of silage, with each ton of corn silage using about 130 tons of water.
Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides
The company’s organic raw material production does not use chemical fertilizers or pesticides. It relies on crop rotation, green manure, composting, biological pest control, and other management measures to maintain soil fertility and control pests and weeds, aiming to promote ecological balance, protect the environment, and improve the quality and safety of agricultural products. In 2023, approximately 315,000 tons of organic agricultural raw materials were purchased, requiring 263,000 mu of organic cultivation bases, including:
- Purchased about 35,000 tons of organic raw materials, including 15,000 tons of organic bean cake, 6,000 tons of corn, 14,000 tons of other raw materials, requiring about 170,000 mu of cultivation base;
- Purchased about 30,000 tons of organic roughage, including 6,000 tons of organic alfalfa, 7,000 tons of oats, 17,000 tons of straw, requiring about 13,000 mu of cultivation base;
- Purchased 250,000 tons of organic silage, requiring about 80,000 mu of cultivation base, with all seed processes required to follow organic standards.
