Modern Dairy Veterinary Drug Management Policy
1. Introduction
Modern Dairy implements the “Veterinary Antimicrobial Reduction Action” on farms based on the principle of “reducing and eliminating antibiotics” in veterinary drug control. All veterinarians on farms are required to strictly comply with relevant laws and regulations on veterinary drug control and sign the “Quality and Safety Assurance Commitment.” We have formulated the “Veterinary Drug Management System” focusing on “standardized use,” “dynamic inspection,” “disease reduction,” “quantity reduction,” and “capability enhancement” to implement a series of veterinary drug control measures and guide farms in scientific and compliant medication use.
2. Scope of Application
This policy applies to all farms operated by Modern Dairy, including subsidiary farms, leased farms, minority equity investment farms, and entrusted management farms.
3. Principles
- Strictly prohibit the use of controlled drugs and communicate the list of prohibited drugs to partner farms;
- Restrict the use of drugs with limited requirements or risks during use, seek alternative drugs, and aim for gradual reduction of veterinary drug use;
- Standardize the use of other veterinary drugs, strictly following product labels and instructions, including target animals, indications, usage and dosage, withdrawal periods, etc.
4. Measures
- All purchased veterinary drugs must be compliant and registered upon receipt;
- Veterinarians must have professional qualifications and sign the “Quality and Safety Assurance Commitment,” pledging to use medications strictly according to laws and regulations;
- Medicated cattle must be differentially identified and isolated, with milk discard periods (withdrawal periods) strictly implemented according to drug instructions, followed by residue testing after the discard period;
- Farms must establish a comprehensive inventory of veterinary drugs, store drugs by category, and assign dedicated personnel for management;
- Conduct laboratory monitoring of veterinary drug residues in daily collected raw milk and implement harmless treatment for non-compliant raw milk.
5. Antibiotic Use Control
Modern Dairy strictly adheres to national legal requirements and has established diagnostic and medication management standards such as “Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Management System,” “Pharmacy Management System,” “Fresh Cow Care System,” “Dry Cow Health Management System,” and “Mastitis Diagnosis and Treatment System” for common cattle diseases. We maximize efforts to avoid antibiotic use and have set clear guidelines for antibiotic use, strictly regulating antibiotics for treatment purposes only in diseased cattle. We closely monitor veterinarians’ medication practices and record and track antibiotic usage data. We also actively implement various preventive measures, strengthen cattle vaccination and health monitoring to reduce the likelihood of antibiotic use due to illness.
For cattle receiving antibiotic treatment, we implement separate management and strictly enforce antibiotic residue testing to ensure no residues in recovered cattle. Meanwhile, we continuously conduct research and testing on antibiotic-free products, striving to develop antibiotic alternatives and reduce dependence on antibiotics. Additionally, we continuously improve feed quality, enhance cattle’s natural immunity through measures such as increasing probiotic intake and reducing stocking density, effectively reducing disease occurrence and potential demand for antibiotics.
6. Training
Modern Dairy conducts annual training on veterinary drug use to guide farms in scientific and standardized use of veterinary drugs and strengthen the management of veterinary drugs and other chemicals. The training covers relevant laws and regulations, safe use of veterinary drugs, management of medicated cattle, identification and screening of high-risk drugs, and other related content.
